See The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The Intrepid is a warship that has services American shores and beyond for many decades, enjoying an illustrious life on the waters of the world. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, aboard the vessel, provides a fascinating historical journey into this massive giant of the waters. The Intrepid served in World War II, after which it was commissioned as a recovery vessel for NASA. The Intrepid was then used in Vietnam. It is therefore one of the most thrilling and unique attractions that New York has to offer. Step aboard the Intrepid to discover a vast array of exhibits that document the heroic times and people that have characterised the US Navy since its inception. In 1974 Zachary Fisher stopped the Intrepid from being relegated to the scrap yard, creating one of the most dynamic museums across the globe.

The museums' exhibits offer a wide choice, with something or everyone. Historical recreations such as Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of light are fascinating recounts of how the navy was bombarded by the zealous attacks of Japanese fighter planes and the pilots that sacrificed their lives in World War II. The A-6 simulator gives you the chance to ride in a simulated A-6 cockpit. The Virtual Flight Zone is a fascinating visit, while there is also the chance of touring the world's fastest commercial airplane: the Concorde. Located on the West side of Manhattan on Pier 86, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is easily accessible by public transport from all over the city. Free guided tours are available, although these are limited to a certain number of people. VIP tours are also available, but are charged. A Museum Store provides curios for your memorable visit of the museum, while you might enjoy lunch at the MacDonald's on the premises.

The extensive collection of aircraft will provide you with exceptionally interesting viewing, with the chance to view some of the jet fighters from World War II to the most advanced fighter-planes, including the TBM Avenger torpedo bomber that was extremely effective in World War II. Other planes include the F14 Tomcat and the MiG-21. Photography and video-taping are permitted aboard the Intrepid, and it is fully accessible (except for the Concorde) to wheelchairs. While in New York, enjoy the finest in vacation rentals at some of the vacation apartment rentals in Manhattan. New York also provides you with the finest in cuisine and night-life. Take advantage of New York's other attractions, including a visit to Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and more. Enjoy a New York dinner cruise, taking in the sparkling brilliance of the New York skyline, or view the enchanting skyline from the vantage point of a helicopter.
